An ACP member is honored with entry into the Hall of Fame because he or she has made a significant and notable contribute to the Catholic book publishing industry at any point in their career. Nominees may be current, past, or retired members of the publishing community. This honor may be given posthumously.

2017 Winners

Cullen Schippe

Cullen Schippe has been in religious educational publishing for forty-seven years—twenty of them as publisher of Benziger. He was the founding president of Tabor Publishing (now RCL Benziger) He also spent eight years at Franciscan Communications, four of them as president and CEO. Most recently, he was president and publisher of the Pflaum Publishing Group now a division of Bayard, Inc. He has been known for his creative and at times unconventional approach to meeting the needs of Catholic schools and parish schools of religion—employing storytelling, drama, film, video, and other electronic media. In addition to hundreds of titles he has edited, produced, and published, he has written and created resources in his own name: Planting, Watering, Growing—The Catechist’s Companion, the three volume Kitchen Table Gospel, and Called to Be a Catechist. He has co-authored The Bible and Its Influence, a soon-to-be re-released textbook for teaching about the Bible in public high schools. He was also the screenwriter and executive producer of a public television documentary The Better Hour: The Legacy of William Wilberforce.

John Thomas

John left Liturgy Training Publications (LTP), Chicago, Illinois, in November of 2016, after serving as Director for over fifteen years. Prior to LTP, John served for six years as Marketing and Sales manager at Paulist Press, Mahwah, New Jersey. He began his work in Catholic publishing in 1989 as a video editing and duplicating clerk for the Salesian publishing house, Don Bosco Multimedia, New Rochelle, New York. During his years at Don Bosco, he served as production manager, marketing manager, and general manager.

Early in his Catholic publishing career John was introduced to the Catholic Book Publishers Association (CBPA), the precursor to the Association of Catholic Publishers (ACP). He was an active participant in the association during his more than 28 years in Catholic publishing, having served on the board for several terms and as president.
